On March 20, Alaska State Troopers responded to a car crash on Dowling Road and Lake Otis around 4:13 pm. An alleged drunk driver caused a pile up and then tried to flee on foot with a bottle of alcohol in hand, but two witnesses chased him down, police said. Investigations showed a 60 year old man was driving east on Dowling Road in a gray Chevy pickup, straddling two lanes when he rear-ended two vehicles stopped at a stop light on Lake Otis and Dowling Road. Those two vehicles were pushed into two other vehicles in front of them. Immediately after the collision the 60 year old driver got out of his truck and began to run away from the scene when he was caught by one of the drivers he hit. The 60 year old man was arrested and charged with a felony DUI, refusing to submit to a chemical test and reckless driving.
