Two Vehicle Collision, Wasilla, Alaska

By Hannah Raymond on March 9th, 2017 in Uncategorized

On February 16, Alaska State Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision near S Knik Goose Bay Road at the intersection with W Fairview Loop, Wasilla. Investigations revealed that an employee for the State of Alaska was driving a snow plow, traveling southbound on S Knik Road, when a 21 year old man driving a silver Honda attempted to pass the snow plow on the right.  The Honda collided with the blade of the snow plow and spun into a white GMC pickup truck that was at a stop light at the intersection. The Honda was disabled as a result of the collision and the driver sustained minor injuries.

Driving Safety Tips

If possible, give trucks extra room for making turns. If a truck in front of you is turning right, they will swing out to the left, so avoid passing them and give them the room they may need.

Avoid erratic driving behavior. This tip is always important, but is especially critical when sharing the road with large vehicles. Fast driving, swerving in and out of lanes, and distracted driving are all examples of behavior that increase the chance of a crash. Large vehicles cannot maneuver as quickly as cars, so drive cautiously when you share the road with them.

Avoid driving next to trucks on windy days. When there is high turbulence, a lightly loaded trailer may be pushed into the adjoining lane. There is also the risk of your car swerving out of your lane and into the next lane.

Whether you’re driving with other cars or sharing the road with trucks, driving cautiously is imperative. Keep these tips in mind and make them habits to develop safe driving behavior.
