Head-on Collision Devastates Two Alaskan Residents

By Ken Ringstad on September 8th, 2014 in Uncategorized

Head-On CollisionOne of the most horrific car accidents that can occur is a head-on collision.  When two cars hit each other head-on, the force of both travelling vehicles results in an accident considerably more violent than other motor vehicle crashes.

Head-on collisions usually do not end well for driver or passenger; depending on the respective speed of each car involved in the accident, injuries are typically catastrophic and the risk of death increases exponentially.  Unfortunately, some Alaskan residents suffered the detrimental consequences of a head-on collision in August.

In the wee hours of the morning, a Ford truck and Chevrolet suburban were travelling down a quiet two-lane road when tragedy struck.  The driver of the Ford crossed over the centerline, entered the opposite lane, and caused a head-on collision with the suburban.

The suburban burst in to flames after the crash, killing the driver, who was identified as a North Pole resident, on the scene.  The driver of the Ford was identified as a Fairbanks resident, and was rushed to the nearest hospital with grave injuries. The road where the accident occurred was closed for hours while state troopers investigated.

At the time of this article, the cause of the collision remained undetermined. But, it is relatively clear that the fault lies with the driver of the Ford truck because his vehicle passed over the centerline. If the driver of the truck is found to have been driving negligently then he may face serious legal consequences.

Some of the most common causes of devastating head-on collisions such as this are driving under the influence, falling asleep behind the wheel, and distracted driving (i.e. texting while driving).  If the driver of the Ford is culpable for any of these, or other causes, he could be held responsible for the death of his fellow traveller.

The suffering caused by a head-on collision has no limits.  If a serious injury occurs, the injured may lose the ability to earn wages, be buried beneath medical bills, and deprived of quality of life. If a family loses a loved on in a head-on collision, like the family of the North Pole resident, they suffer the devastating loss of someone they love and must face medical and funeral expenses.

In both these cases, if the suffering is caused by the neglect of another driver, compensation is in order.  While recompense cannot replace a loved one or heal a wound, it may be able to relieve the stresses that follow.

If you or a loved one were involved in a head-on collision that was caused by the negligence of another driver, do not hesitate to contact an experienced car accident lawyer.  Insurance companies don’t always have your best interest in mind when it comes to payment for damages, but a collision attorney will protect your rights and fight for what you deserve.
