Teenager saved from burning car

|

On February 5, Alaska State Troopers reported that an 18 year old was driving Sunday evening on Rezanof Drive West near the Coast Guard Base when his car left the roadway and crashed into a ditch near Mile 9. It’s reported that the engine compartment of his 2007 Subaru burst into flames. The 18 year old was found unconscious and wearing his seatbelt. Witnesses pulled him from the burning car. He was transported by EMT to Providence Kodiak Medical Center. He was later medevac’d to Anchorage Providence Hospital. His current condition is unreported

Driving Safety Tips

Slow down. It’s not worth risking your life getting somewhere just a few minutes earlier. Alaska is known for dangerous and icy road conditions. Be aware of the current weather conditions on the road on which you will be traveling. Always try to let a friend or relative know where you are going and what time you plan to leave.

A factor in many of the serious and fatal crashes is (overconfidence) in one’s abilities and/or equipment (traction control, winter tires). Some feel that they have sufficient experience in winter driving, and can therefore continue normally. But a fishtail on ice that occurs at highway speeds is usually unrecoverable by even the most quick-witted and experienced drivers.
