On March 7, 2017 Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a pickup truck flipped over near Mile 81 on the Seward Highway. A 27 yr old Nikiski man was driving south on the Seward Highway with two passengers when he crossed the center line into oncoming northbound traffic. The driver of the pickup truck went into the ditch and hit a power pole. The truck flipped trapping him inside the vehicle. Emergency responders extracted him from the vehicle and pronounced him dead at the scene. The two passengers were transported to the Anchorage Hospital with what the Alaska State Troopers say are non-life threatening injuries.

Driving Safety Tips
Keep 100% of your attention on driving at all times – no multi-tasking.
Don’t use your phone or any other electronic device while driving.
Slow down. Speeding gives you less time to react and increases the severity of an accident.
Be aware of what other drivers around you are doing, and expect the unexpected.
Assume other drivers will do something crazy, and always be prepared to avoid it.
Keep a 4-second cushion between you and the car in front of you.
Make it longer if the weather is bad.
