The investigation revealed the driver of the scooter hit a pothole and flipped onto its left side throwing the driver and passenger into the roadway. The passenger suffered a fractured ankle and leg and the driver sustained minor injuries. The passenger was transported to Haines SEARCH Clinic and later med-evaced to Juneau for further treatment.

Scooter Safety Tips
Make sure the scooter is designed to carry a passenger. Is the seat large enough to hold two persons and are there footrests for the passenger. Never carry a passenger sidesaddle. Passengers should be properly seated with their feet securely planted on the footrests. Realize the braking capabilities have changed with the additional weight now on the scooter.
Scooters are at a greater risk for accidents. They are much smaller and far less protected from collisions as well as road defects and obstructions. If you have been in a scooter accident, you may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering, lost wages, medical expenses, and emotional distress.
