Three Vehicle Accident in Ketchikan

|

On October 1, Alaska State Troopers and North Tongass Fire Department responded to a report of a three vehicle accident on South Point Higgins Road.  Investigation revealed the driver of a Chevy Cavalier was traveling east on South Point Higgins Road; the driver looked away from the roadway and struck a parked Isuzu Rodeo.  The impact caused the Isuzu Rodeo to move forward striking an unoccupied and parked Subaru Forester.  The owner of the Isuzu Rodeo was placing her child in a rear car seat at the time of the collision. Four persons were evaluated at the scene by EMS personnel for minor injuries. The driver of the Cavalier was cited for Negligent Driving.

Driving Safety Tips

Eliminate distraction.  This means, among other things, that you should not do anything on your cell phone while you are driving.  It is illegal to text and drive in Alaska, but other cell phone activity can be equaling as life-threatening.  Things can wait until you are done driving, and if they can’t, you should pull over and attend to them once you are safely off the road and stopped.  Distraction is one of the biggest threats to a driver’s safety that is easily preventable.

Sometimes all is takes is that one moment when you take your eyes off the road to look at your phone, the radio, your kids in the backseat, or the commotion on the side of the road.  There are many causes of car accidents like distractions or sleep-deprivation.  If you have been involved in a car accident at the fault of someone else, you may be entitled to compensation.
