On October 29, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a two pickups on Chena Hot Springs road near Rifle Road. Investigation into the incident revealed that an eastbound 2005 Ford F-150 crossed the center lane into the westbound lane and struck a 2014 Toyota Rav 4 head-on. The driver of the Toyota was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and later succumbed to his injuries. The driver and a passenger in the Ford F150 were treated for minor injuries. Alcohol and drugs are not considered a factor. At the time of the collision roads were slick due freezing rain and ice.
