On July 4, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle collision on the Denali Highway near Cantwell. Investigation revealed the woman was parked near the side of the highway when her dog crossed the highway in front of the truck. The woman was struck by the semi when she interceded between the dog and the semi. Passer-bys provided first aid until Cantwell medics arrived. She was later flown to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries
