On July 18, Alaska State Troopers were notified of a motor vehicle collision at Milepost 210 of the Richardson Highway.  AST, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Fort Greely Fire Dept., Rural Deltana Fire Department and Delta Medical Transport responded to the scene.  Investigation revealed the driver of a GMC Yukon was traveling northbound and lost control on a curve, crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Ford F150.  The Yukon overturned and was submerged in the Delta River.   Emergency responders pulled the SUV from the water and unsuccessfully attempted lifesaving measure on the driver and passenger.

Report taken from Alaska State Troopers Dispatch and Fairbanks Daily Newsminer.

Safety Tips for Escaping a Submerged Car

Time is critical.  Don’t try to call 911 until after you’re out of the vehicle.  Unbuckle and roll down the windows instead of trying to open the door.  Opening a door is difficult against the water pressure and can speed up the sinking process.  Break the window if you don’t have a chance to roll the windows down.  Get children out first.   The road is a dangerous place.  If you or a loved one has been involved in a motor vehicle crash, you should seek legal counsel.  Call the personal injury attorneys at Ringstad Law Office, P.C. to see how we can help you.
