Kodiak Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Collision

|

On August 13, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near mile 8 Rezanof Drive. Investigation revealed the driver of a school bus struck the pedestrian who was in the middle of the road.  The pedestrian was transported to Providence Kodiak Medical Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  He was later medevac’d to Anchorage. Troopers closed Rezanof Drive for 1.5 hours to continue their investigation. The incident is still under investigation.

Report taken from Alaska State Troopers Dispatch.

Pedestrian Safety Tips

Cross the street only at intersections. DO NOT JAYWALK.  Use marked crosswalks where available.  Do not cross in the middle of the street or between parked cars.  Drivers are not expecting pedestrians to cross mid-block and you are more likely to be hit if you do this.  Avoid walking in traffic where there are no sidewalks or cross walks.  If you have to walk on a road that doesn’t have sidewalks, walk facing traffic.  Wear bright colors or reflective clothing if you are walking near traffic at night.  Carry a flashlight when walking in the dark.
