5 Injured in Parks Highway Crash

Alaska State Troopers responded on October 16 to a reports of a multiple vehicle incident on the Parks Highways near Milepost 252.5.  Investigation revealed a semi-truck pulling double trailers tried to stop for another vehicle that was disabled and blocking the northbound lane of the Parks Highway. The semi was able to stop before striking the other vehicle but the semi and trailers jack-knifed blocking all lanes of the highway. A short time later another northbound vehicle could not stop and struck the back of the trailer becoming wedged between the trailer and southbound guardrail. Moments after, another northbound vehicle could not stop and struck the back of the semi-trailer.  A passenger had to be extricated from the vehicle.  All injuries were reported to be serious, but not life threatening.

Vehicle Safety Tips:

Remember the speed limits are meant for dry roads, not roads covered in snow and ice. You should reduce your speed and increase your following distance as road conditions and visibility worsen.

Be cautious on bridges and overpasses as they are commonly the first areas to become icy.
