The vast wilderness of Alaska is a wonderful place to seek adventure, and many people do love to explore the great outdoors. But out in the wild, it is important to take the proper safety measures in order to prevent anything truly scary from happening to you or anyone you are with.
That’s why there are free Wilderness Safety Awareness and Education Classes available in Fairbanks. Thousands of people venture out to enjoy the beautiful Alaskan scenery, and while many return home safely, some are not so lucky.
Even the most well-thought-out plans can go wrong, and over the past several years, there have been a rise in the number of wilderness-related injuries and deaths in the state of Alaska.
In order to take those numbers down, the Alaska Department of Public Safety has started giving these free courses to promote safety and awareness for everyone.
Professionals from the North America Outdoor Institute lead the sessions, which are designed to be fun an interactive. The courses include school, community awareness, and half-day field training.
Participants have the opportunity to learn and practice skills such as wilderness first aid, fire and shelter building, navigation, knot tying and other vital survival skills.
One of the upcoming Fairbanks Be Wilderness Smart sessions will take place at the Raven Landing Senior Community multi-purpose room.
Classes fill up quick and registration is required, so if you are planning an outdoor adventure this spring, look in to a class like this for your own safety and the safety of your loved ones. For more information, contact the North America Outdoor Institute.
